Problem with Banana Scrum hosting
Tuesday, 02 March 2010 00:00

Banana Scrum hosted service has been down for two hours now. We don't know exactly what the problem cause is, though from what we have learned so far this is most likely a hardware problem in the data center (run by OVH in Paris), where our tool is hosted. Rack, where our machines are located is marked as experiencing problems, we have been assured by a technician that this will be taken care of and repaired, but so far this did not happen.

Watch this space and our GetSatisfaction forum for updates on the situation. We're terribly sorry this has occurred, in light of the levels of reliability we experience at OVH we'll re-deploy the application at a different hosting with the next release.

UPDATE 20:11 UTC: We still can't access the servers. OVH technicians are apparently working restoring services in their server room, we are checking the situation on their server room map. Our rack is still marked as experiencing problems, but we hoped it will be serviced soon.

UPDATE 22:18 UTC: With no way to contact anyone alive at OVH we can only watch their server room monitoring and their ticket systems. We are planning how to redeploy the application elsewhere. Don't expect this to happen sooner than in a couple of hours. We are both sorry and angered this is happening. We'll make sure this won't happen again, but it will mean a different, more reliable hosting provider. If anyone out there can recommend good hosting provider for Ruby on Rails/JRuby apps let us know.

UPDATE 03:22 UTC: Finally someone got to our rack and fixed the problem (we still don't know what it exactly was). Banana Scrum is back on-line. No data was lost (and even if it would, we have backups). LiveSync feature is not working yet, but will be restored by us shortly.

UPDATE 09:23 UTC: Banana Scrum is up and LiveSync is up. However, disk requests run very slow. We raised the problem with the hosting provider (OVH), in the meantime we continue to explore alternatives.
